At
Little Brook Farm we strive to breed athletic, correct Morgans that epitomize
the heirloom qualities that made Morgans the breed of choice for both 19th
century ranchers and urban dwellers. Their combination of people-oriented
personalities, heart, charisma, style, powerful gaits and soundness made
them ideal for a wide variety of uses - from hazing cows to pulling a stylish
carriage in the park.
Our LBF horses carry on that tradition - our Morgans are winning with their amateur owners in combined driving, competitive trail and dressage. They're beloved trail companions, proudly displayed at parades and exhibitions, and bring joy to their owners everyday through their loving dispositions.
We began our
program with
Gay Vaquero, who goes back many times to the famous cross of Bennington and
Artemisia and
was rich in the blood of Richard Sellman and Roland Hill. Vaquero
himself was a very versatile competitor in dressage, carriage driving and
competitive
trail. This stallion passed on to his offspring his wonderful gentle, kind
disposition, great bone, good length of hip, wonderful hind end as well as
a beautiful head
and eye. Vaquero
was bred by Richard and Phyllis Nelsen of Mohican Farm.
We have retained three of his daughters to carry on his heritage - all have proven themselves in the performance arena and we are now enjoying their offspring. From this beginning, we sought similarly versatile, sound Western Working Family bloodlines while also adding a splash of color into the mix. Today our herd includes more than a dozen Morgans that we feel include some of the best bloodlines for all-around using horses and sport disciplines in the breed.
We all enjoy visitors here in our beautiful Vermont mountains and welcome inquiries about our horses and our breeding program. Feel free to e-mail or call to talk or arrange to visit.
