MDA Extensions
January, 2012

Dear Morgan Dressage Association
Members:
As you can see from the feature
picture, this issue of
MDA Extensions delivers
the MDA's first electronic version
of our newsletter (click
here
or on the newsletter front page)!
Having our newsletter available in
an electronic format allows it to be
viewed (and printed) in living color
as well as providing "active" links
to websites of interest. Not to
mention being "green" and less
expensive. Enjoy!
News of note for members:
-
Membership dues have
increased.
As of January 1, 2012 membership
dues increased to $25 for an
individual membership, $35 for a
Family/Farm and $10 for Youth
for 2012.
-
REMEMBER...The MEMBERSHIP YEAR
is January 1st to December 31st.
Haven't renewed? The MDA
membership year is January
through December--not from
renewal date,
so if you haven't renewed for
2012, you need to do so soon to
keep receiving your membership
benefits.
These benefits include the
quarterly newsletter, news and
timely updates on the MDA and
the Morgan Dressage world via
the MDA
Extensions email
bulletin, free classified ads
(newsletter and website),
eligibility for awards and
scholarships (did you know the
MDA is one of the few AMHA
clubs/organizations that offers
scholarships and has an awards
program?) and the pride of
knowing you are helping to
support fellow Morgan dressage
enthusiasts spread the word
about our wonderful breed in
dressage.
-
Coming soon, the MDA "Store".
Like the new MDA logo? We have
patches for your saddle pad,
magnets for your car. A great
way to advertise your pride in
your Morgan dressage partner!
We are working on getting our "MDA
Store" together and will keep
you updated.
Got a "fun" picture (definitely does
not have to be from a competition)
you would like to share? Some news
or brag? A special book, video or
website? A special event? We might
not be able to pass all of them on,
but we would like to try! Feel free
to contact any of the MDA Board to
get your news and events in the next
MDA Extensions!
And...as always, make sure you visit
the
MDA
website for updates.
Dressage and Morgans in the News
Congratulations to Pam Maloof and
Queen's Moody Blues
(Mizrahi x Queen’s Mercy Me)
They were the winners of the Morgan
Individual Breed Class at Dressage
at Devon this past September with a
score of 73.400. Queen's Moody
Blues is owned by Kelly Hendrick was
bred by Queens River Farm, Inc.
Did you see the November 2011 issue
of "Dressage Today"?
It carried an article focusing on
"baroque" breeds. MDA member Gail
Perlee wrote a great letter to the
editor in regards to Morgans as a
baroque breed...with our very own
West Mt. Wilson and David Macmillan
as an example. To quote from the
letter: "As a Morgan person, I have
always noted the similarity of the
traditional Morgan to the horses
depicted in Renaissance art and to
the modern baroque
breeds...Physically these horses all
share the same deep, rounded bodies,
long forearms, short cannons, square
joints, laid back shoulders and
intelligent head carried on a high
crested neck...Today's Morgans still
exhibit that same type to a
remarkable degree, so let's include
the Morgan as an American baroque
breed." Keep an eye out for reply's
to Gail's letter in the next issues
of Dressage Today. Better yet,
write a reply!
Not specifically Morgan or
Dressage--EHV-1 in North Carolina.
"Clinicians at North Carolina State
University’s College of Veterinary
Medicine have isolated and
quarantined a horse that has tested
positive for the neurologic form of
equine herpes virus (Equine
Herpesvirus-1 Myeloencephalopathy)."
