![]() The Jubilee King grandson Luzan with some of his offspring at the ranch in the early 1970s |
Three generations of Radtkes have been raising and proving Morgans as performance horses on our family's western Montana ranch. When the program started in the 1960s, our first stallion, Luzan, a Jubilee King grandson, was used on the foundation mares Kootenai Madi's Girl, a Canfield granddaughter, and Leota, a Red Racer daughter.
Luzan was followed by the Domino Joe son Joe Daly, and this golden cross of
Brunk and Old Government bloodlines has set the pattern for nearly 40 years
of breeding Morgans that are correct, athletic, with size, good bone and sound
minds - qualities that allow them to compete successfully in dressage, jumping
and driving as well as moving cattle in rough mountain terrain.
Foals are imprinted at birth and
then spend the summer growing in the mountains before coming down in the fall.
Throughout the winter they're handled daily and receive regular
worming
and trimming. In the spring the yearlings and 2 year-olds are trailered to the
mountains for summer pasture. As 3 year-olds they're started under saddle with
resistance-free techniques and used on trails and working cattle for their first
year under saddle.
